Research Center for Conservation and Utilization of Special Economic Animal Resources

    Research Center for Conservation and Utilization of Special Economic Animal Resources was established in January 2019 on the basis of both Animal Breeding and Ecological Research Center and Primate Experimental Animal Research Center. The center addresses the strategic needs of protection, development and utilization of special economic animal resources in China and Guangdong province. By committing to the basic and applied basic research, as well as the industrialization utilization key technology development, we provide theoretical basis and technical support to protect and sustainably utilize germplasm resources of special economic animal, and promote the healthy development of special animal industrial. 
   The main research and technical service areas include :(1) Systematic classification, identification, evaluation and preservation of germplasm resources of special economic animals (animals with medicinal, edible or medical application value, such as turtle, crocodilians, snake, giant salamander, frog and primate); (2) Ecology of special economic animals, investigation and evaluation of wild population, and research on conservation strategies; (3) Domestication and breeding of special economic animals, genetic breeding, research on gender regulation, and development of key industrial technologies; (4) Development and application of preparation technology of non-human primate model; (5) Providing social technical services such as germplasm identification of special economic animals, breeding technology, site selection of breeding farms, risk assessment of breeding farm relocation, and preparation of non-human primate models.
     近10多年来,本研究中心先后承担各类科研项目50多项,包括国家科技部条件支撑项目1项、国家重点研发计划项目(子课题)3项、国家自然科学基金项目4项、广东省和广州市科技项目15项;获授权国家发明专利14件;主编(参编)专著8部;发表学术论文100多篇,其中SCI收录论文50多篇;获省部级科技奖励6项(一等奖1项、二等奖3项、三等奖2项);制订企业标准5件。
     本研究中心目前建有广东省灵长类实验动物重点科研基地、广州市灵长类实验动物行业工程技术研究中心、广东省灵长类实验动物工程技术研究中心,具备符合国际AAALAC标准/GLP要求的动物实验设施,非常适合灵长类实验动物的研究与开发;与特种经济动物龙头企业广东绿卡现代农业集团有限公司、广东贞山鳄鱼养殖有限公司、广东福金源生态农业有限公司等联合建立产学研基地,在广东象头山国家级自然保护区建立珍稀龟类保育研究基地,为国家和广东省特种经济动物资源保护与利用、创新药物研发及灵长类实验动物产业提供重要科技支撑平台。
