科研情况简介
长期从事鞘翅目、脉翅目等昆虫类群的系统学和昆虫地理学研究。近十五年来共主持和参加了国家“七五”重点项目1项，“八五”国家攻关专题1项，院重点项目2项，院创新方向性项目1项，国家自然科学基金委重大项目2项，国家自然科学基金重点项目4项，国家自然科学基金面上项目5项，国家自然科学基金主任基金1项。同时组织并主持了西南武陵山地区昆虫的考察、长江三峡库区陆生昆虫及无脊椎动物物种多样性调查、山西省中条山昆虫种类调查、福建武夷山区叶甲物种多样性调查、浙江龙王山昆虫资源调查、秦岭西段及甘肃南部动物资源调查和广西十万大山动物区系调查等7项大规模的野外考察活动，研究结果汇编成多部专著，并发现数百个新种，另外还有新属、新记录属和新记录种若干，其研究结果极大的丰富了我国昆虫区系。曾主编《中国动物志：脉翅目：草蛉科》、《秦岭西段及甘南地区昆虫》、《外来入侵种强大小蠹》、《广西十万大山昆虫》、《西藏雅鲁藏布大峡谷昆虫》、《长江三峡库区昆虫》、《昆虫学研究进展》、《福建武夷山区叶甲科昆虫志》、《甘肃省叶甲科昆虫志》等9部专著，并担任以下专著的副主编或编委：《中国经济昆虫志－鞘翅目，叶甲科》、《西南武陵山地区昆虫》、《中国珍稀昆虫图鉴》、《海南森林昆虫》、《龙栖山动物》、《华东百山祖昆虫》、《喀喇昆仑山－昆仑山地区昆虫》。
在国内率先开展高山昆虫的形态学及其适应演化的研究，其研究结果在第19届国际昆虫学大会上交流；对草蛉科分类系统的修订，得到了国际同行的认可和应用；依据多方面的研究结果，提出现代中国昆虫区系起源的主要背景来自于东部的假说；把国际上有关昆虫系统学及起源演化等方面新的成果或学说及时介绍给国内，如“翅源说”，昆虫纲新系统等。先后在国内外刊物上发表有关研究报告或论文近200篇，其中近五年发表SCI源论文20余篇，发现新属4个、新种200余个。
