    On ecological adaptation of insect population and regional ecological security assessment, the research center concentrates on pest monitoring, control and insect diversity. For termite prevention and control, using Odontotermes formosanus (Shiraki) and Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki as model organisms, we investigate their colony development, social immunity, lignocellulose degradation physiology, and the molecular mechanisms therein. Guangdong Engineering and Technology Research Center for Termites has been approved and established. Our long-term goal is to develop the environmentally-friendly key technologies and methods for preventing and controlling termite infestations and utilization of termite resources. For insect diversity, based on the insect resources in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area and Guangdong Nanling mountains, our current studies include insect classification, phylogeny, the ecological response of insect diversity on ecological environment, and monitoring and early warning of main pest, so as to provide support for biological safety and ecological security of Guangdong.

    1、Sociobiology of Termites: phenotypic plasticity, behavioral and chemical ecology, digestive physiology and immune mechanism.

    2、Pest Management: evaluation on control effects of insecticide, termite bait, pest investigation and control in urban and forest areas.

    3、Insect Diversity: insect taxonomy and phylogeny, biodiversiy, bioindicator.
