The Center for Animal Ecology and Evolution

  The Center for Animal Ecology and Evolution (CAEE), Guangdong Institute of Applied Biological Resources was established in 2019. It was originally owned by the Center for ‘Avian Ecology and Evolution’, ‘Rodent and Pest Control’, and ‘Prevention and Control of Animal Diseases and Molecules Ecology’. Some scientific researchers of the Research Center have been re-integrated and constructed. CAEE addresses the strategic needs of animal diversity conservation and sustainable development in South China, especially Guangdong Province. By studying terrestrial vertebrates from both micro and macro aspects, we address key basic sciences in animal ecology, evolutionary biology, virology, physiological ecology and sustainable control technologies. We provide theoretical basis and technical support to improve the sustainability of biodiversity resources in China, serve the national ecological security and environmental protection, and promote the development of animal ecology and conservation biology.

  The main research areas include: (1) Functional ecology, community assembly and diversity protection of forest birds in Nanling Mountains (birds and vegetation relationships, succession rules of bird community, ecosystem disturbance hypothesis), and maintenance or cooperation mechanism of closely-related bird species in mixed flocks (ecological niche differentiation, expansion, stress gradient hypothesis); (2) Bird diversity in mangroves and coastal wetlands in coastal areas of South China, including migratory patterns, population dynamics and responses to global climate change in wetland birds. Urban ecosystem services and bird diversity protection in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Bay Area; (3) Population genetics and molecular system evolution of birds, such as subspecies differentiation of babblers and bulbuls, formation of endemic species or subspecies, and the impact of historical events on species evolution; (4) Systematic classification of bird feather parasites, co-evolution of between host birds and feather and blood-feeding parasites, metagenomics of birds carrying viruses; (5) Integration of individual behavior , physiological, biochemical and molecular research, systematically explore the physiological mechanisms and digestive strategies of rodents to adapt to changes in food quality and quantity, rodent reproductive behavior Physiological mechanisms and mechanism of action of infertile agents, behavioral patterns and evolutionary adaptation of rodent sound and chemical communication; (6) Behavioral ecology of mammals and their evolutionary adaptability, diversity distribution pattern and mechanisms of mammals, and virus-host coevolution in mammals.

  In addition, the research center also involved in broad range of scientific studies at ‘Nanling Ecological Comprehensive Experimental Station’, ‘Nanling Forest Ecosystem Field Science Observation and Research Station’, and ‘Tropical Subtropical Coastal Ecosystem Observation and Research Station’, provide important support for the innovative development of CAEE.

  1.3 鸟类的种群遗传和分子系统演化研究,如画眉科、鹎科鸟类亚种分化,特有种或亚种的形成以及地质历史事件对物种演化的影响;鸟类体表寄生虫的系统分类,血液及体表寄生虫与鸟类宿主的协同进化;鸟类携带病毒的宏基因组学。

  Study on population genetics and molecular system evolution of birds, such as subspecies differentiation of babblers and bulbuls, formation of endemic species or subspecies, and the impact of historical events on species evolution. Systematic classification of bird feather parasites, co-evolution of blood and feather parasites with bird hosts, metagenomics of birds carrying viruses.

  

  基于溯祖法和特征法对鸟类复合体(白头鹎/台湾鹎)中“种”的界定及实验比较分析

  黑喉噪鹛海南特有亚种与邻近大陆亚种之间的遗传差异与种群分化

  灰眶雀鹛的分子系统发育分析重新界定了分类单元,原7个亚种提升为4个种

  

  2、整合个体行为、生理、生化和分子等层次的研究,系统探究

            1)鼠类适应食物质量和数量的变化的生理机制和消化对策;2)鼠类繁殖行为和生理机制,及不育剂作用机制;3)鼠类声音和化学通讯的行为模式及进化适应意义。

  Integrating individual behavioral, physiological, biochemical and molecular studies, systematically exploring (1)the physiological mechanisms and digestive strategies for rodents to adapt to changes in food quality and quantity, (2) the reproductive behavior and physiological mechanisms of rodents, and the mechanism of sterilant action; (3) the behavioral patterns and evolutionary adaptation of rodent sound and chemical communication.

  研究业绩

  近十年来,承担各类科研项目60多项,包括国家自然科学基金、NSFC—广东联合基金重点项目、粤澳合作项目、广东省自然科学基金项目等。发表论文200多篇,其中在SCI源期刊论文80多篇,以第一作者或通讯作者在Proceedings of the National Academy of SciencesMolecular EcologyMolecular Phylogenetics and EvolutionIbis Biological ConservationConservation Biology Forest Ecology and Management等国际顶级学术期刊发表论文。出版专著13部,获授权专利7项。研究成果获海南省科技成果三等奖(主持)、广东省科技进步二等奖(主持)、国家科技进步奖二等奖(排名第3),教育部自然科学奖二等奖(排名第7),Ig Nobel生物学奖(通讯作者),广州市科技计划人才专项—珠江科技新星2项。经过多年的努力,使广东省生物资源应用研究所的动物生态学研究走在全国的前列。
